H.R. 8513 — PROTECT Act

This section directs the Secretary of Homeland Security to disseminate, not later than one year after enactment and quadrennially thereafter, guidance to federal, state, and local government agencies and appropriate private sector entities on best practices for (1) handling personally identifiable information (PII) of agency officers, officials, employees, and contractors, and (2) actions such personnel can take to ensure their safety. It defines PII as any information that permits the identity of an individual to be directly or indirectly inferred, including linked or linkable information, regardless of the individual's citizenship or residency status.
