This section amends NPS interpretation and education program standards (54 U.S.C. §100803) to require that such programs are historically and culturally accurate. It prohibits the Secretary of the Interior from removing, obscuring, editing, or altering historically and culturally accurate interpretive or educational materials (i.e., signs, plaques, exhibits, and related online materials) at National Park System units unless necessary to update information or accommodate new exhibits, with required consultation of relevant constituencies including Indian Tribes (new 54 U.S.C. §100805). It further directs the Secretary to replace or restore any such materials removed, obscured, edited, or altered between January 20, 2025, and the date of enactment at each system unit within 180 days.
This section directs the Comptroller General to submit to the House Committee on Natural Resources and the Senate Committees on Indian Affairs and Energy and Natural Resources, not later than one year after enactment, a report on the status of co-stewardship agreements between Indigenous communities (including Indian Tribes and Native Hawaiian Organizations) and federal agencies. The report includes recommendations to improve co-stewardship agreement processes to meet federal trust obligations to such communities.
