H.R. 8657 — Campus Lifeline Act of 2026

This section revises the authorized activities for student-led campus interventions under the youth suicide prevention program to support student groups, including athletic teams and mental health clubs, that educate students on mental and behavioral health disorders, reduce associated stigma, promote mental health, and recognize and intervene with peers showing warning signs of mental health and substance use disorders.

This section expands awareness strategies for the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by directing ongoing public outreach and requiring coordination with states and institutions of higher education to list the hotline on newly issued identification cards. It also authorizes use of program funds for such awareness activities and requires the Secretary of Health and Human Services to consult with the Secretary of Education, the Secretary of Transportation, and other relevant agencies when developing related plans.
