H.R. 883 — Counter SNIPER Act

This section establishes a reconsideration process under 18 U.S.C. 3056 for presidential or vice presidential candidates denied a Secret Service protective detail or increase in resources. Specifically, (1) the Secretary of Homeland Security must notify the candidate and advisory committee within 14 days of the denial, specifying unmet criteria; and (2) upon the candidate's written reconsideration request, the Secretary must issue a final determination within 14 days and provide a copy to the advisory committee. This section further requires the Secret Service to be headed by a Director appointed by the President with the advice and consent of the Senate.
