H.Res. 1161 — Congressional Quilt Show Resolution of 2026

This section states findings of the House of Representatives on the American quilting community as inter-generational stewards of craft, memory, and skill; the historical role of quilting and needlework in teaching beauty, function, and visual and mathematical intelligence predominantly to women and girls; the benefits of congressional investment to uphold standards of skill and build community; and the value of activities that foster cultural pride and affirm craftsmanship as a national asset.

This section establishes a congressional quilting showcase administered by lottery and held each year among eligible constituents in each congressional district, directs the Committee on House Administration to prescribe regulations for the showcase, requires the Architect of the Capitol to display each quilt outside the respective congressional office in the House of Representatives, and defines an eligible constituent as an individual who has won a ribbon from a county fair or received similar recognition within their congressional district.
