This section expresses the sense of Congress that (1) the United States appreciates alliances with countries such as the United Kingdom and Australia and honors the sacrifices of their armed forces in Afghanistan, Iraq, and other missions; (2) allied forces participated in U.S.-led collective security and counterterrorism operations under mutual defense agreements; (3) retrospective, politically motivated war crimes accusations against allied special operations forces undermine mutual trust, interoperability, and morale; (4) the executive branch, including the Departments of Defense and State, should work with allies such as Australia and the United Kingdom to ensure investigations are conducted without politicization; and (5) honoring allied sacrifices, preserving alliances, and discouraging politicization of war crimes allegations serves the U.S. national interest.
