H.Res. 17 — Condemning Turkey for its illegal occupation of Cyprus and encouraging President Trump to make the resolution of the Cyprus problem a top foreign policy priority.

This section condemns Turkey’s continued occupation of Cyprus and calls upon Turkey to immediately withdraw its estimated 35,000 occupying troops. It further calls upon Turkey to adhere to NATO democratic principles; reiterates that any settlement must be based on a bizonal, bicommunal federation with single sovereignty and international personality that incorporates constitutional democratic norms, the EU acquis communautaire, UN resolutions on Cyprus, and European court decisions; calls on Turkey to cease interference in the Cyprus Exclusive Economic Zone and provide avenues for American citizens to seek remedies for property losses in the occupied territory; demands Turkey’s cooperation in recovering the four American citizens missing since the 1974 invasion; calls for removal of over 200,000 illegal settlers and assistance in repatriating Greek-Cypriot refugees; and encourages the President to make resolution of the Cyprus problem a top foreign policy priority.
