This section expresses support for the goals and ideals of National Youth HIV/AIDS Awareness Day and encourages state and local governments, public health agencies, education agencies, schools, and media organizations to recognize and support the day. It supports young people’s access to education, prevention, treatment, and care without criminalization, discrimination, or stigma; promotes inclusive, culturally responsible, and medically accurate HIV information, including on pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), in sex education curricula; supports removal of scientifically inaccurate HIV criminalization laws; urges youth-friendly health care services with access to PrEP, post-exposure prophylaxis, and antiretroviral therapy without parental consent; supports increased funding for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Division of Adolescent and School Health, Division of STD Prevention, and Division of HIV Prevention, the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program, the Medicaid program, AIDS Drug Assistance Programs, and related programs; recommends comprehensive prevention strategies involving parents, educators, faith leaders, and other stakeholders to reduce violence, discrimination, and stigma; calls for youth leadership to advance a generation free of HIV stigma and develop the next generation of HIV professionals; and recognizes the negative impact of restrictions on bodily autonomy, such as limits on abortion, birth control, and transgender health care, on youth access to HIV prevention, education, testing, and treatment.
