H.Res. 543 — Recognizing the right to peacefully protest and condemning violence and authoritarian responses to expressions of dissent.

This section states the sense of the House of Representatives on matters relating to protests and public safety as follows: (1) reaffirming support for the First Amendment right to peacefully assemble and protest; (2) supporting civil rights and civil liberties, including due process, for all persons; (3) condemning instigators of violence against law enforcement, vandalism, looting, and property destruction; (4) emphasizing that all law enforcement, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement, must operate with transparency and public accountability; (5) denouncing inflammatory language by the Trump Administration that worsened community tensions; (6) reiterating support for Marines and National Guard servicemembers while objecting to their current deployment in California; and (7) commending law enforcement officers who protected public safety, enabled peaceful protests, and upheld the rule of law.
