H.Res. 683 — Supporting the designation of the week of September 8 through September 12, 2025, as "Malnutrition Awareness Week".

This section supports the designation of Malnutrition Awareness Week and recognizes registered dietitian nutritionists and other nutrition professionals, health care providers, school food service workers, home-delivered meal providers, social workers, advocates, caregivers, and other professionals and agencies for their efforts to advance awareness, treatment, and prevention of malnutrition. It recognizes the importance of Federal nutrition programs under the Older Americans Act of 1965 and Federal child nutrition programs in combating malnutrition and supports increased funding for these programs. The section also recognizes the role of community-based organizations, food banks, faith-based organizations, and local agencies in preventing and addressing malnutrition in underserved areas; the importance of medical nutrition therapy under the Medicare Program under title XVIII of the Social Security Act and the need for vulnerable populations to access nutrition counseling; and National Institutes of Health research on nutrition, dietary patterns, the human gastrointestinal microbiome, and their influence on chronic disease prevention or development throughout the lifespan. It encourages the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to facilitate implementation of the Malnutrition Care Score, an electronic clinical quality measure for adults aged 18 and older, and acknowledges the importance of healthy food access for children in childcare settings and schools along with evidence-based nutrition standards.
