H.Res. 965 — Providing for consideration of the bill (H.R. 1689) to require the Secretary of Homeland Security to designate Haiti for temporary protected status.

This section provides for the House's immediate consideration of H.R. 1689, a bill to require the Secretary of Homeland Security to designate Haiti for temporary protected status. It (1) waives all points of order against consideration of the bill; (2) deems adopted the amendment in the nature of a substitute specified in section 4 of the resolution; (3) considers the bill, as amended, as read and waives all points of order against its provisions; and (4) orders the previous question on the bill, as amended, and any further amendment thereto, to final passage without intervening motion except one hour of debate equally divided and controlled by the majority leader and minority leader or their designees and one motion to recommit.

This section directs the Secretary of Homeland Security to designate Haiti for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) until the date that is three months after January 20, 2029 (notwithstanding any other provision of law). TPS provides temporary immigration status and work authorization to eligible nationals of designated foreign states unable to return home safely due to ongoing armed conflict, an environmental disaster, or other extraordinary and temporary conditions.
