S. 1008 — Cape Fox Land Entitlement Finalization Act of 2025

This section provides definitions for terms used in the Act, including Cape Fox as the Cape Fox Village Corporation for the Native Village of Saxman, Alaska, organized under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act; Federal land as approximately 180 acres of surface land in the Tongass National Forest, as depicted on the Map; the Map as the map entitled “Cape Fox Village Corporation Final Selection” and dated December 18, 2023; and the Secretary as the Secretary of the Interior.

This section waives the core township requirement under section 16(b) of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (43 U.S.C. 1615(b)) for Cape Fox, exempting it from selecting or receiving conveyance of approximately 185 acres of unconveyed land in the township containing the Native Village of Saxman, Alaska. The exempted land consists of approximately 40 acres in T. 74 S., R. 90 E., sec. 10, SWNE, Copper River Meridian, and approximately 144.57 acres in T. 75 S., R. 91 E., sec. 1, lots 1, 3, and 4, Copper River Meridian.

This section directs the Secretary of the Interior to convey specified Federal land to Cape Fox upon written notice of selection, submitted not later than 90 days after enactment, and to convey the subsurface estate in that land to Sealaska Corporation. The conveyances must be completed as soon as practicable but not later than 180 days after receipt of the notice and fulfill Cape Fox’s surface estate entitlement under section 16 of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act and Sealaska Corporation’s subsurface entitlement under section 14(f) of that Act.

This section subjects the conveyance of Federal land under section 4 to a reservation of a public easement under section 17(b) of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act to allow access to National Forest System land further inland on Revillagigedo Island from the George Inlet.
