S. 1157 — Women and Lung Cancer Research and Preventive Services Act of 2025

This section directs the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS), in consultation with the Secretaries of Defense and Veterans Affairs, to conduct an interagency review evaluating the status of and opportunities to accelerate federal research on (1) lung cancer in women, (2) lung cancer in underserved populations eligible for screening per U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommendations (i.e., generally older individuals with significant smoking history), (3) access to lung cancer preventive services, and (4) strategic public awareness and education campaigns on lung cancer. The review must assess prior research outcomes, current activities, and knowledge gaps across federal agencies; identify opportunities for collaborative research on knowledge gaps, environmental and genomic factors, and imaging advances; and develop strategies for a national lung cancer screening program and public education campaign focused on women, underserved populations, and early detection. Not later than two years after enactment, the HHS Secretary must submit a report on the review to Congress.
