S. 1209 — American Prairie Conservation Act

This section revises native sod conversion certification requirements under the Federal Crop Insurance Act and the Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program (NAP) by striking existing paragraph (3) in each and inserting the following: (1) requiring a producer who tills native sod acreage for the production of an insurable crop to certify that acreage to the Secretary as a condition of receiving benefits, using a Farm Service Agency acreage report form (FSA-578 or successor) and one or more maps; (2) requiring the producer to submit corrections to the certification as soon as practicable after discovering changes in the tilled native sod acreage; and (3) directing the Secretary to submit annual reports to the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry and the House Committee on Agriculture describing certified tilled native sod acreage by county and state, each January 1 from 2026 through 2030.
