S. 1288 — Finger Lakes National Heritage Area Act

This section designates the Finger Lakes National Heritage Area—consisting of Cayuga, Chemung, Cortland, Livingston, Monroe, Onondaga, Ontario, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Tioga, Tompkins, Wayne, and Yates Counties in New York—as a component of the National Heritage Area System under the John D. Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act, with the Finger Lakes Tourism Alliance serving as the local coordinating entity. (As background, National Heritage Areas preserve distinctive natural, cultural, historic, and recreational resources through public-private partnerships, with the Secretary of the Interior providing technical and financial assistance.) It directs the entity to submit a management plan to the Secretary within three years of enactment and terminates the Secretary's assistance authority for the area 15 years after enactment.
