S. 1590 — Aviation Workforce Development Act

This section expands the definition of qualified higher education expenses for tax-free distributions from qualified tuition programs (i.e., 529 plans) to include tuition, fees, books, supplies, and equipment required for a designated beneficiary's participation in a qualified aviation maintenance course (i.e., at an aviation maintenance technician school governed by 14 CFR part 147) or qualified commercial pilot course (i.e., at a flight school providing flight training under 14 CFR part 61 or holding a pilot school certificate under 14 CFR part 141). The provision applies to distributions made after the date of enactment.
