S. 1597 — Paycheck Protection Act

This section prohibits federal agencies and the U.S. Postal Service from deducting labor organization dues, fees, or political contributions from employee pay. (1) It revises federal law (previously authorizing such voluntary deductions with employee assignments irrevocable for up to one year) to bar the practice entirely; (2) it revises Postal Service law (previously authorizing such deductions for recognized unions with similar assignments and grandfathering prior agreements) to bar the practice entirely. (Thus, employees must remit dues and fees directly to unions.)
