S. 1794 — SNAP Next Step Act of 2025

This section authorizes state agencies administering the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to use administrative funds to recruit participants for and carry out employment and training activities under subtitle B of title I of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA; i.e., the adult, youth, and dislocated worker programs)—to "covered individuals." A covered individual is a member of a SNAP household who (1) meets SNAP work participation requirements or is exempt from them, (2) is unemployed or underemployed, (3) is in a family not receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) block grants, and (4) is not enrolled in a state-designated Employment First program.

This section authorizes each state Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) agency to develop a publicly available employment calculator on its website to assist participants in calculating whether SNAP benefits would exceed income from future employment. Costs of developing and operating the calculator qualify as reimbursable state administrative expenses under SNAP section 16(a).
