S. 1828 — Safe Routes Improvement Act

This section requires each state to designate a safe routes to school program coordinator to serve as the program's point of contact (with the Secretary prohibited from requiring additional duties except as authorized by Congress), permits use of an existing state employee paid from funds under 23 U.S.C. 133(h) or 148, requires posting the coordinator's contact information on the state department of transportation website, and mandates filling any vacancy within 180 days. As a conforming amendment, the section strikes paragraph (3) of 23 U.S.C. 208(g).
