S. 1952 — Protecting Law Enforcement from Doxxing Act

This section amends 18 U.S.C. 1510 (Obstruction of criminal investigations) to (1) revise the section heading to "Obstruction of criminal investigations and immigration enforcement operations"; (2) add subsection (f) defining "Federal law enforcement officer" (i.e., any U.S. officer, agent, or employee authorized to engage in or supervise prevention, detection, investigation, or prosecution of violations of federal criminal or immigration law) and prohibiting public release of such an officer's name with intent to obstruct a criminal investigation or immigration enforcement operation, punishable by fine or imprisonment for not more than five years (or both); and (3) make conforming amendments to the table of sections for chapter 73 of title 18, U.S. Code, and cross-references in 18 U.S.C. 1961(1), 2516(1)(c), and 3142(h)(2)(C). (As background, current law in 18 U.S.C. 1510 criminalizes bribery to obstruct communication to criminal investigators and notifications by financial institution officers of certain subpoenas related to financial crimes.)
