S. 2006 — Fit to Serve Act

This section establishes a prohibition on discrimination in the Armed Forces on the basis of gender identity (including a diagnosis or potential diagnosis of gender dysphoria), barring the Secretary concerned from (1) prescribing a qualification for service as a member of the Armed Forces; (2) involuntarily separating a member of the Armed Forces; (3) denying medically necessary health care coverage to a member of the Armed Forces; (4) requiring an individual to serve in the sex assigned at birth; (5) denying accession, reenlistment, or continuation of service; or (6) otherwise discriminating against a member of the Armed Forces. The section defines gender identity as the gender-related identity, appearance, mannerisms, or other gender-related characteristics of an individual, regardless of the individual's designated sex at birth.
