S. 2074 — Servicemembers’ Credit Monitoring Enhancement Act

This section revises free credit and identity theft protection services under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) (15 U.S.C. 1681c-1)—which nationwide consumer reporting agencies must provide at no cost—to apply to "armed forces member consumers" (i.e., consumers who are members of the armed forces regardless of duty status) instead of "active duty military consumers." It makes a conforming change to a related FCRA preemption of state laws (15 U.S.C. 1681t). The amendments take effect one year after enactment.
