“A bill to require 12-month continuous, full benefit coverage for pregnant individuals under Medicaid and CHIP, and for other purposes.”
No CRS summary available for this bill.
This section requires state Medicaid and CHIP plans to provide pregnant individuals with continuous full-scope coverage (i.e., all services available under the plan, not limited to pregnancy-related services, prenatal care, postpartum care, family planning, conditions complicating pregnancy, or certain vaccines) during pregnancy and for the 12-month postpartum period (previously optional under Medicaid and limited for individuals eligible solely due to pregnancy). (As background, Medicaid provides health coverage to low-income individuals, including as a mandatory eligibility group for pregnant women; CHIP covers low-income children and, through state options, pregnant women.) It applies these requirements to CHIP via conformity amendments and takes effect on the first day of the first calendar quarter beginning one year after enactment (with exceptions for states needing legislation and an option for earlier implementation).
