S. 2483 — A bill to provide that members of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices may not be terminated except for cause and to require the immediate reinstatement of the members of such advisory committee.

This section establishes requirements for termination, reinstatement, and appointments to the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), which advises the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on vaccine recommendations. Specifically, it (1) limits the Secretary of Health and Human Services to terminating ACIP members only for cause (i.e., inefficiency, neglect of duty, or malfeasance in office), after notice and opportunity for hearing, with a written justification submitted to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions and House Committee on Energy and Commerce and made publicly available within one day; (2) requires immediate reinstatement of ACIP membership as in effect on June 8, 2025, with such members serving the remainder of their terms as of June 9, 2025; and (3) directs the Secretary to fill subsequent vacancies from individuals recommended by the Comptroller General of the United States. (Thus, for federal employee members, termination applies only to ACIP membership and does not affect employment protections.)
