S. 2485 — Adjunct Faculty Loan Fairness Act of 2025

This section revises the definition of full-time employment as faculty for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) eligibility under the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan program—which forgives the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying payments for full-time work (generally at least 30 hours per week) at eligible public service employers (i.e., government entities or tax-exempt nonprofits)—by restructuring existing criteria to cover full-time faculty members teaching math, science, or foreign languages at institutions of higher education (IHEs), as determined by the Secretary, and adding a new category for non-tenured-track adjunct or contingent faculty, teachers, or lecturers at IHEs (as defined in section 101(a)), postsecondary vocational institutions (as defined in section 102(c)), or Tribal Colleges or Universities (as defined in section 316(b)) who teach not less than 9 credit hours per semester, 6 credit hours per trimester, or 18 credit hours per calendar year (or the equivalent of 30 hours per week, calculated by multiplying each credit or contact hour taught per week by 3.35 or a larger factor set by the Secretary) and are not full-time employed elsewhere.
