S. 2498 — National Park System Long-Term Lease Investment Act

This section authorizes the Secretary of the Interior (acting through the Director of the National Park Service) to extend leases entered into under 36 CFR part 18 (as in effect on January 3, 2025) without complying with §§18.7 or 18.8 if (1) the lessee entered into the lease at least five years before the extension takes effect and is in compliance with its terms and conditions, and (2) the Secretary determines the extension is in the best interests of the applicable National Park System unit. (As background, 36 CFR part 18 governs leases of National Park Service-owned facilities and improvements to private entities for commercial services.) The section also directs the Secretary to revise 36 CFR part 18 to reflect this authority not later than 90 days after the date of enactment.
