S. 2508 — Gas Pipeline Leak Detection and Repair Act of 2025

This section requires the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration's (PHMSA) final rule on gas pipeline leak detection and repair—issued January 17, 2025, under 49 U.S.C. §60102(q) (Docket No. PHMSA–2021–0039; RIN 2137–AF51)—to take effect on the date of enactment, notwithstanding any other law. It clarifies that the Secretary of Transportation may issue subsequent regulations under that authority with more stringent standards than the rule or any other regulation in effect on the date of enactment.
