S. 266 — Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Reauthorization Act

This section revises Section 3 of the Dr. Lorna Breen Health Care Provider Protection Act by (1) requiring the Secretary of HHS to conduct the education and awareness initiative encouraging health care professionals to use mental health and substance use disorder services annually after the date of enactment of that Act (previously one time), and (2) extending the authorization period to 2025 through 2029 (from 2022 through 2024).

This section revises HHS grant programs to promote mental health and resiliency among health care professionals by (1) redesignating the authority as section 764A of the Public Health Service Act; (2) expanding grant award priorities to eligible entities that are in health professional shortage areas or rural areas, or that have a focus on reducing administrative burdens on health care workers; (3) revising grant and contract terms to not less than 3 years (from 3 years); and (4) extending the authorization of appropriations through FY2029 (from FY2024).
