S. 2689 — District of Columbia Police Home Rule Act

This section repeals section 740 of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act, which authorizes the President to assume control of the Metropolitan Police Department (i.e., D.C. police force) during an emergency involving threats to U.S. government operations or national security. (Thus, such authority reverts solely to the Mayor of the District of Columbia and the D.C. Council.)
