S. 2692 — Agricultural Biotechnology Coordination Act

This section establishes in the Department of Agriculture the Office of Biotechnology Policy, headed by a Director reporting directly to the Secretary (or designee), to prioritize biotechnology by coordinating Department policies and activities on biotechnology, biomanufacturing, synthetic biology, and related emerging technologies. The office's duties include developing and coordinating biotechnology-related research and development, communication/extension/education, regulation/labeling, and commercialization/use/trade; assisting other Department offices and agencies; leading interagency coordination with the Environmental Protection Agency, Food and Drug Administration, and other Federal and State agencies; and consulting with biotechnology developers, academics, agricultural producers, and other affected entities. This section also makes a conforming amendment to authorize the office under the Department of Agriculture Reorganization Act of 1994.
