S. 2802 — Student Debt Alternative and CTE Awareness Act

This section directs the Secretary of Education, acting through the Office of Federal Student Aid, to publish on the Office's public website—not later than 60 days after enactment of this Act, and with continuous updates and maintenance—information on (1) career and technical education programs, including average completion time, program cost, and post-graduation employment rate; (2) opportunities in each state to pursue such programs and to obtain funding under the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act of 2006; and (3) Workforce Pell Grants authorized under section 401(k) of the Higher Education Act of 1965. The terms "career and technical education" and "state" have the meanings given in section 3 of the Perkins Act.

This section adds to the notifications required on applications for Federal student financial aid (i.e., the FAFSA) under the Higher Education Act of 1965 a new requirement for the Secretary of Education to inform applicants that career and technical education programs (as defined in section 3 of the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act of 2006) are a viable alternative to a 4-year degree. It further requires, at the beginning of such applications, (1) a one-page summary of the most recent information provided under section 2(a)(1) of the Student Debt Alternative and CTE Awareness Act and (2) an acknowledgment signature box.
