S. 2807 — RESPECT Act of 2025

This section revises the Department of Veterans Affairs' authority under 38 U.S.C. § 2411 to reconsider decisions on interment or memorialization in national cemeteries by (1) limiting reconsideration to decisions made on or after June 18, 1973 (previously, no date limitation); and (2) replacing references to individuals "to be a tier III sex offender for purposes of" the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act with references to those who "meet the definition of a tier III sex offender under section 111" of that Act (34 U.S.C. § 20911). (Tier III sex offenders under SORNA are the most serious, including those convicted of aggravated sexual abuse or comparable offenses punishable by more than one year in prison.) The section also strikes subsection (c) of section 2 of the Alicia Dawn Koehl Respect for National Cemeteries Act (Public Law 113-65).
