S. 2901 — Safer Emergency and Evacuation Routes Response Act of 2025

This section establishes a voluntary pilot program, administered by the Secretary of Transportation in coordination with the Administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the Chief of the Forest Service, to integrate real-time National Weather Service wildfire hazard alerts with state and local transportation closure information systems. The program assists participating states in automatically relaying roadway closures, detours, and evacuation routes to drivers during wildfires using existing data standards, without requiring uniform systems or granting federal authority over closure decisions. The Secretary must submit to the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation and the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, not later than two years after implementation, a report evaluating the program's effectiveness in improving the timeliness and accuracy of wildfire-related driver notifications.
