No CRS summary available for this bill.
This section revises the definition of disease prevention and health promotion services under the Older Americans Act of 1965 to include (1) screening for eligibility for Federal and non-Federal (including community-based) food is medicine programs; (2) referrals to such programs, if appropriate; and (3) improved nutrition from medically tailored meals and produce prescriptions. The section further amends requirements for administering nutrition services to promote innovative approaches, including food-based interventions such as produce prescriptions, and expands nutrition education and counseling to encompass interventions and referrals to food-based intervention programs. (Food is medicine programs provide medically tailored nutrition interventions, such as produce prescriptions, to address diet-related chronic conditions among older adults.)
