S. 3375 — Native Arts and Culture Promotion Act

This section revises the Department of the Interior's grant program for Native Hawaiian and Alaska Native culture and arts development, which supports scholarly study, instruction, degree programs, and centers for such art and culture. Specifically, it (1) expands eligibility to any nonprofit organization or institution (from private, nonprofit), (2) authorizes grants to establish and maintain degree programs and centers (from establish only), and (3) simplifies governing board requirements for grant recipients by requiring only that Native Hawaiian grants include Native Hawaiians or recognized experts and a fixed term (removing mandates for representatives from the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, University of Hawaii president, and Bishop Museum president) and that Alaska Native grants include Alaska Natives or recognized experts and a fixed term (removing requirements to represent Eskimo, Indian, and Aleut cultures).
