S. 3515 — A bill to direct the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to jointly select a joint uniform credentialing and privileging system for medical providers, and for other purposes.

This section directs the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, in consultation with the Domestic Policy Council, to jointly submit to the appropriate congressional committees (i.e., Armed Services and Veterans' Affairs Committees of the Senate and House) a report on their medical provider credentialing and privileging systems (i.e., processes to verify qualifications and authorize practice privileges) not later than 120 days after enactment of this Act. The report must describe the systems' scope, data, portability, interoperability, risk management, limitations, and gaps, and provide recommendations for a single uniform system. This section further directs the Secretaries to (1) select one existing system as the joint uniform credentialing and privileging system by January 1, 2027; (2) ensure the selected system can import and share provider information; and (3) certify its implementation and operational status to the committees by January 1, 2028.
