S. 3598 — Better Care for PFAS Patients Act of 2026

This section directs the Director of the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) to enter into an agreement within 60 days of enactment with the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (or another entity) to assess health effects of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) measurable in human tissues and formulate clinical recommendations, with initial completion within two years of the agreement and updates every five years or more frequently as needed by the Director. The assessing entity must consult PFAS-exposed communities. Separately, the Director must issue up-to-date clinical guidance based on those assessments and recommendations within five years of the agreement, post it on ATSDR's website, and disseminate it to state and local public health authorities and appropriate health care professionals, with updates every five years or more frequently as needed.
