S. 3601 — Veterans in Campus Safety Act

This section establishes a competitive grant program administered by the Secretary of Education under which institutions of higher education (as defined in section 102 of the Higher Education Act of 1965) may receive funds to hire veterans (as defined in 38 U.S.C. §101) as campus security personnel. Institutions must apply as specified by the Secretary and use grant funds solely for such hires on their campuses (as defined in section 485(f)(6)(A)(ii) of the Higher Education Act of 1965).

This section prohibits the use of federal funds for Equity Assistance Centers, as described in 34 CFR part 270 (i.e., regional centers that provide technical assistance to state and local education agencies on civil rights compliance and equity issues such as race, sex, and national origin), or any similar centers.
