This section expands the temporary licensure authority under section 504 of the Veterans Benefits Improvements Act of 1996 (38 U.S.C. 5101 note)—which permits the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to contract with health care professionals lacking a full license in the state of service, if they hold an unrestricted license elsewhere and are not barred from practice, to perform medical disability examinations supporting veterans' benefits claims—to include all professionals eligible for Veterans Health Administration appointment under 38 U.S.C. 7402(b) (from physician assistants, nurse practitioners, audiologists, and psychologists); delays the sunset of this authority to September 30, 2031 (from five years after enactment of the Johnny Isakson and David P. Roe, M.D. Veterans Health Care and Benefits Improvement Act of 2020); and requires the VA Secretary to submit a report to the congressional veterans' affairs committees not later than 15 months after enactment assessing the authority's use during the one-year period following enactment, including examination numbers and costs by professional and contract, geographic distribution, professional types, and error correction plans.
