S. 3720 — Bay Area Ridge National Scenic Trail Feasibility Study Act

This section sets forth congressional findings concerning the Bay Area Ridge Trail, a scenic nonmotorized multi-use trail that extends approximately 550 miles (with 415 miles completed and 140 miles remaining), is located near urban areas, provides outdoor recreation and access to scenic ridgelines and diverse environments in the San Francisco Bay Area, and connects with regional trails such as the Bay Trail, Vine Trail, and Coyote Creek Trail.

This section adds the Bay Area Ridge National Scenic Trail—a proposed multi-use trail of approximately 550 miles along ridgelines of hills and mountains surrounding the San Francisco Bay Area in northern California, connecting over 75 parks and open spaces—to the list of trails under the National Trails System Act requiring a feasibility study for potential designation as a national scenic trail. It directs the Secretary of the Interior, notwithstanding general study requirements, to complete and submit the study to Congress not later than one year after enactment, in consultation with interested organizations (including the Bay Area Ridge Trail Council) and Federal and state agencies administering lands along the route.
