S. 3872 — A bill to amend title XVIII of the Social Security Act to provide coverage for wigs as durable medical equipment under the Medicare program, and for other purposes.

This section expands the Medicare definition of durable medical equipment to include cranial prostheses (i.e., wigs) furnished to an individual when certified in writing by the individual's dermatologist, oncologist, or attending physician as medically necessary for a proposed course of rehabilitative treatment or for hair loss caused by a health condition, including autoimmune diseases, cancer, or chemotherapy. It also excludes from Medicare coverage any such cranial prostheses lacking the required certification.
