S. 402 — Words Matter for the District of Columbia Courts Act

This section revises terminology in three sections of the District of Columbia Official Code concerning court jurisdiction over individuals with intellectual disabilities, in each case replacing “substantially retarded persons” or “the at least moderately mentally retarded” with “persons with moderate intellectual disabilities”: (1) Section 11–501(2)(D) (U.S. District Court jurisdiction); (2) Section 11–921(a)(4)(D) (Superior Court jurisdiction); and (3) Section 11–1101(a)(15) (Family Court jurisdiction).
