S. 4252 — WIPP Economic Assistance Assurance Act of 2026

This section extends authorization for economic assistance and miscellaneous payments under the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant Land Withdrawal Act—providing payments to New Mexico and Carlsbad, New Mexico, to mitigate economic and institutional impacts of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP), the sole federal deep geologic repository for transuranic radioactive waste—through the fiscal year during which transuranic waste shipments to or from WIPP have been terminated (from each of the 14 fiscal years beginning with a specified fiscal year). It revises the subsection heading from “14-year authorization” to “In general”.
