S. 4289 — Preparing Superfund for Climate Change Act of 2026

This section amends remedial action standards and review requirements under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act of 1980 (CERCLA)—commonly known as Superfund, which addresses cleanup of hazardous waste sites—(1) to require consideration, in criteria for selecting remedies at such sites, of the potential threat to human health and the environment from local natural disasters and extreme weather hazards, including any projected exacerbation or change due to climate change; and (2) to require five-year reviews of selected remedies to assess whether they remain protective in light of such disasters and hazards, including projected climate change effects.
