No CRS summary available for this bill.
This section establishes a pilot program, to be known as the Retention of Experienced Regular Air Force Fighter Aircrew Pilot Program, not later than one year after enactment, to permit one-time career intermissions of 4 months to 1 year for regular Air Force fighter aircrew officers (Air Force Specialty Codes 11F and 12F) who have completed initial active duty service commitments, in order to test whether such intermissions reduce early separations and preserve expertise for air staff and leadership roles. The program (1) places participants in the Individual Ready Reserve during intermissions, with required proficiency training; (2) allows retention of security clearances, base access, and other privileges to the maximum extent practicable; (3) provides pay and allowances per 10 U.S.C. §710(f), with a modified active duty service commitment; (4) permits housing residents to remain in place while paying rent during basic allowance for housing suspension; (5) applies continued entitlements, promotion rules, and non-counting of intermission time toward retirement under specified 10 U.S.C. provisions; and (6) authorizes wing commanders to approve participation (processed within 30 days), subject to deployment, Air Force Generation cycle, and mission limits, with expedited return to active service.
