This section authorizes the Attorney General, in collaboration with the Secretary of Homeland Security, to increase annual Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (Byrne JAG) allocations—which provide formula funding to states and localities for law enforcement, prosecution, courts, corrections, crime prevention, and related programs—by up to 10% of an applicant's average annual allocation over the prior three years for any state or local jurisdiction that enters into a 287(g) agreement with ICE (i.e., a memorandum allowing designated local officers to perform certain federal immigration enforcement functions). Qualifying jurisdictions may apply notwithstanding existing allocation limits in current law.
This section authorizes appropriations of $20 million for each of FY2027 through FY2033 to provide increased funding to states and political subdivisions pursuant to section 2(b).
