S. 4474 — Servicemember Civilian Transition Support Act

This section directs the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness to designate, not later than 90 days after enactment, a senior official with extensive experience in veterans services to oversee Department of Defense policies and programs for the transition of members of the Armed Forces from active duty to civilian life or the reserve components. The section also requires the official to serve as the principal advisor to the Secretary of Defense on transition matters, coordinate with the Secretaries of Veterans Affairs, Labor, and Education, oversee the Military-Civilian Transition Office and programs such as the Transition Assistance Program and Skillbridge Program, and conduct reviews to improve program efficacy, and directs the Secretary of Defense to brief the congressional defense committees on the designation and implementation within 90 days.
