S. 735 — Sickle Cell Disease and Other Heritable Blood Disorders Research, Surveillance, Prevention, and Treatment Act of 2025

This section revises the sickle cell disease prevention and treatment program (i.e., grants to comprehensive sickle cell disease centers for counseling, testing, treatment, training, and information activities) by (1) expanding authorized purposes in multiple provisions to include prevention and treatment of sickle cell disease complications (in addition to prevention and treatment of sickle cell disease); (2) authorizing awards through grants, contracts, or cooperative agreements (previously contracts only); and (3) increasing annual funding to $8.205 million for FY2025 through FY2029 (from $4.455 million for FY2019 through FY2023). The section also expresses the sense of Congress that further research is needed on causes and cures for heritable blood disorders, including sickle cell disease.
