S. 793 — A bill to amend the Commander John Scott Hannon Veterans Mental Health Care Improvement Act of 2019 to modify and reauthorize the Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program of the Department of Veterans Affairs.

This section modifies and reauthorizes the Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program (i.e., a grant program that awards funds to eligible private entities to develop, expand, or enhance community-based suicide prevention services for veterans and family members at risk of suicide). Specifically, it (1) replaces references to the President's Roadmap to Empower Veterans and End a National Tragedy of Suicide Task Force with entities as the Secretary of Veterans Affairs considers appropriate; (2) increases the maximum grant amount to $1.25 million (from $750,000); (3) requires additional measures and metrics, as determined by the Secretary, to reflect program aims, ensure congressional accountability, and incorporate lessons learned; (4) requires the Secretary to provide annual briefings on the program to personnel at each Department medical center within 100 miles of a grantee's primary location to improve coordination; (5) extends the program's duration to September 30, 2028 (from three years after the first grant award); (6) authorizes $285 million for FY2026 through FY2028 (from $174 million for FY2021 through FY2025); and (7) makes a clerical correction to eligible individuals in the definition of covered family members.
