S. 83 — Thin Blue Line Act

This section establishes a new aggravating factor in federal death penalty sentencing for the killing or attempted killing of law enforcement personnel (i.e., persons authorized to prevent, investigate, prosecute, or incarcerate for criminal violations or to apprehend or arrest for such violations), firefighters, or other first responders, if the victim was killed or targeted (i) while engaged in official duties, (ii) because of performance of such duties, or (iii) because of status as a public official or employee.
